CHICAGO, January 7, 2014—Chicago Review Press Incorporated, the parent company of Chicago Review Press (CRP, www.chicagoreviewpress.com) and national distributor Independent Publishers Group (IPG, www.ipgbook.com) has acquired Academy Chicago Publishers (ACP, www.academychicago.com). The companies announced the acquisition today.

Academy Chicago Publishers was founded in 1975 by husband and wife Jordan and Anita Miller. With nearly forty years in the business and more than three hundred published titles, ACP is one of the oldest publishing houses in Chicago and is proud to call itself independent.  From memoirs to mysteries, Academy Chicago Publishers lives to publish exciting, new, and well-crafted fiction and non-fiction.

Chicago Review Press will immediately begin publishing fifteen to twenty new titles annually under the Academy Chicago Publishers imprint. The deal marks a new venture for Chicago Review Press: publishing original fiction titles. Chicago Review Press publisher Cynthia Sherry will oversee the acquired Academy Chicago Publishers titles, CRP’s publicity department will promote the titles and IPG will distribute all new and backlist Academy Chicago Publishers titles. IPG’s accounts include national and regional wholesalers, library wholesalers, independent retailers, chain stores, libraries, teacher supply stores, museum stores, college stores, mass merchandisers and electronic booksellers. ACP founders Jordan and Anita Miller will work as editors-at-large for Chicago Review Press for the next two years.

“We’re very excited,” says Cynthia Sherry, publisher of Chicago Review Press. “Our two companies have always been strong independent publishers with a passion for quality. Academy Chicago Publishers has a terrific line of fiction, particularly mysteries which will be a great new addition to our list. I’m confident that our combined talents will yield wonderful books for years to come.”

Founded in Chicago in 1973, Chicago Review Press has grown into a dynamic midsize publisher with more than 650 titles in print. Chicago Review Press publishes a wide range of subjects including history, biography, memoir, music, film, and travel, among others, as well as an award-winning line of children's activity books and young adult biographies. The press currently publishes about 65 new titles annually under four imprints: Chicago Review Press, Lawrence Hill Books, Ball Publishing, and Zephyr Press. All Chicago Review Press titles are distributed to the book trade by Independent Publishers Group.
