Staff Reads: Book Love At First Sight

By

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we asked our staff what books they’ve fallen in love with at first sight. The insta-book love is real. Let us know your book loves in the comments below or on Twitter. #CRPreads

I went a little crazy at ALA last year and picked up anything with a dark, brooding and beautiful cover. I haven’t read them yet, but Mothers and Other Strangers and The Glass Eye make for gorgeous and melancholy entries on the bookshelf. —Ashley Alfirevic, publicity associate

I have a few books I’ve fallen in love with at first sight, but most recently was probably Hygge. The cover feels homey and magical and if it’s sitting out somewhere, the gold foil catches the light beautifully.  —Alex Granata, CRP intern

Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology, Madeline Miller’s The Song of Achilles, and Natsuo Kirino’s The Goddess Chronicle all come to mind. Would I have fallen in love with them as immediately if I didn’t already have an absolutely weakness for mythology and myths retold? Perhaps not. But the gorgeous simplicity of the books’ covers had me enthralled from the first time I saw them. —Mary Kravenas, marketing manager

When I first saw Euphoria by Lily King online I was immediately drawn to it, but seeing it in person is even more beautiful. My edition feels like silk and the colors jump out at you. I haven’t read it yet. I think I’m slightly scared that it’ll break the book’s spell. —Emily Lewis, editorial and marketing assistant
