Furiously Happy Norse Mythology Sapiens cover4-192x300-the-story-of-a-new-name

Listening to Jenny Lawson’s Furiously Happy has left me alternating between stifling bouts of giggles on the train and sitting in stunned silence, wondering how she put into words the things that I’ve never been able to articulate. There have been a lot of hilarious and wise memoirs lately (Yes Please by Amy Poehler), but this is the first one I’ve found laugh-out-loud funny in a long time.  —Ashley Alfirevic, publicity associate

I’ve been doing a lot of reactive consuming of media recently. On the podcast side of things, I’ve been listening to Fargo and Twin Peaks podcasts as the premiere dates for the return of those shows are on the horizon. And I’ve dipped into Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology and Laura Sook Duncombe’s Pirate Women thanks to the Thor: Ragnarok trailer dropping earlier this week (this may also require a reread of Greg Pak’s Planet Hulk story in the very near future) and Black Sails having just ended its series run. And just yesterday I read a delightful piece on Agatha Christie in praise of her “accidental sleuths,” Tommy and Tuppence. —Mary Kravenas, marketing manager

I’m rereading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith and, since I haven’t been able to get enough nonfiction, I’m also reading Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari. —Emily Lewis, editorial and marketing assistant

I’m reading four novels at once! 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, The Story of a New Name by Elena Ferrante, Jonah’s Gourd Vine by Zora Neale Hurston, and Red Adam’s Lady by Grace Ingram. All of them are very good, but so far my favorite is The Story of a New Name. —Yuval Taylor, senior editor
